The nitrogen content in calcined petroleum coke is a critical quality indicator.

The nitrogen content in calcined petroleum coke is a critical quality indicator. Simply put, the lower the nitrogen content, the higher the product quality and the more advanced its applications. It primarily determines suitability across various fields by influencing the product's chemical composition, physical properties, and ultimate performance characteristics.

Effects of Excessive Nitrogen Content:

1. Increases nitrogen content in molten steel. Nitrogen forms bubbles and inclusions in steel, reducing plasticity, toughness, and fatigue resistance, leading to scrap.

2. During high-temperature electrolysis, nitrogen may escape as gas, increasing anode porosity, causing structural loosening, and reducing strength, thereby shortening anode lifespan.

3. Nitrogen escaping during subsequent high-temperature graphitization can easily cause electrode cracking and internal structural damage, severely impacting yield rates and compromising electrical conductivity and heat resistance.
