China is taking the initiative on the international diplomatic stage.
In a joint statement issued in Beijing on March 10, China, Saudi Arabia and Iran announced that Saudi Arabia and Iran had agreed to restore diplomatic relations, reopen embassies and representative offices in up to two months, arrange for the exchange of ambassadors and explore ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
AFP: It was negotiated under Chinese coordination. The breakthrough in bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran has not only regional implications, but also significant implications in terms of the path to an agreement.
Saudi government commentator: It is significant that China is now the originator of this agreement, given its influence over Iran, and with China as the originator of the agreement, the kingdom can safely give Iran the benefit of the doubt.
